Google has unveiled the latest addition to its Chromebook lineup, the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14, featuring cutting-edge hardware and innovative AI-powered software designed to enhance both productivity and user experience. Available in two configurations, the Chromebook Plus 14 offers a 12GB RAM model priced at $649 and a premium 16GB RAM variant with a fingerprint scanner for $749. At its core, this new device is powered by MediaTek's Kompanio Ultra processor, which boasts what Google claims is the most advanced ARM-based Neural Processing Unit (NPU) ever seen in a Chromebook. This powerful chip performs up to 50 trillion operations per second, enabling it to efficiently tackle a variety of AI-driven tasks. In terms of battery life, the Chromebook Plus 14 stands out with an impressive 17-hour performance, making it the longest-lasting model in the Chromebook Plus series to date. Among its hardware innovations, this device is the first in the Chromebook Plus line to support Dolby Atmos audio and features an OLED display, elevating the multimedia experience. The higher-spec variant includes a fingerprint scanner, marking a significant upgrade for users engaged in multitasking and media-related projects. The device also introduces several on-device AI features designed to streamline user workflows. For example, Smart Grouping automatically organizes browser tabs and documents into categories based on the user’s current tasks. The Gallery app now facilitates AI image editing, allowing users to effortlessly remove backgrounds or create stickers with just a click. In conjunction with the hardware launch, Google is implementing a range of AI features across the broader Chromebook Plus portfolio, integrated directly into ChromeOS. Notable additions include "Select to Search with Lens," which permits users to highlight sections of their screen and receive contextual information without leaving the page. Another feature, "Text Capture," allows users to extract editable text from images such as receipts or handwritten notes, which can then be used to fill calendar entries or generate shopping lists in Google Docs. Moreover, the new "Quick Insert Key" simplifies the process of generating images or inserting photos and emojis straight into documents or presentations, enhancing creative workflows. The upgraded "Help Me Read" feature now not only summarizes lengthy texts but also simplifies complex or technical content for better comprehension. These tools will be accessible to all Chromebook Plus users, regardless of the model. Purchasing a Chromebook Plus also grants customers a year-long subscription to the Google AI Pro plan, which includes 2TB of cloud storage and access to Google’s Gemini AI across Gmail, Docs, and more. Additionally, users can launch NotebookLM, Google's AI research and writing assistant, directly from their desktop. The Chromebook Plus 14 comes with exclusive custom wallpapers created in collaboration with NASA, showcasing stunning images of Jupiter’s auroras at various times of day. On the app support front, Netflix’s Squid Game: Unleashed is being optimized for Chromebook use with keyboard and mouse compatibility, offering unique in-game content. Furthermore, the popular AI-powered photo editing app, Luminar, will be available for free for three months with the purchase of any Chromebook Plus model. The Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 is now available for purchase through Best Buy, setting a new standard in the Chromebook market.
