During the recent Made by Google event, the tech giant unveiled exciting new features for Google Photos that empower users to edit their images through simple voice commands or text prompts. This innovative functionality will initially be available on the Pixel 10 devices in the United States, enabling users to articulate their desired edits in a conversational manner. Additionally, Google is incorporating support for C2PA Content Credentials within Google Photos. The Pixel 10 will be the first device from the company to adopt this standard, which is aimed at enhancing transparency regarding image creation and the use of AI technology. Notably, C2PA support will be integrated directly with the Camera app on Pixel devices, applicable to all images captured, regardless of AI involvement. The new “edit by asking” feature utilizes Gemini technology, allowing users to request modifications using natural language. For example, users can instruct the app to "remove the cars in the background" or make broader requests such as "restore this old photo." This feature is particularly beneficial for those who may not be well-versed in photo editing tools, providing a straightforward way to enhance their images. Google Photos is capable of performing a variety of tasks, from adjusting lighting and eliminating distractions to more creative edits, like changing backgrounds or adding fun elements such as sunglasses or party hats to subjects in the photos. Even if users are unsure of what to ask, they can simply request assistance with a phrase like "make it better," prompting the app to automatically enhance the image. Furthermore, the app is designed to suggest potential improvements and supports follow-up commands for ongoing adjustments. Google has indicated that the C2PA support will initially be rolled out to Pixel 10 devices, with plans to expand this feature gradually to Google Photos on iOS and Android in the coming weeks. The “edit by asking” feature officially launched on Wednesday, signaling a significant leap in user-friendly photo editing technology.
