Prentis, new AI lab co-founded by Reid Hoffman, Mark Pincus in talks to raise $100M

Their ultimate goal is to create AI agents capable of automating common tasks, such as processing insurance claims and managing customs duty refunds, all without the need for human intervention. Already, Prentis has secured contracts valued at up to $50 million with several clientele, including organizations in healthcare management and manufacturing sectors. These contracts are expected to contribute to an impressive annualized run rate projected to reach $75 million by the third quarter of this year, according to insider sources. It’s important to note that these figures are based on estimated annualized values tied to a contracted fee of 20% of the savings generated, rather than recognized revenue, and are contingent on performance. Prentis claims its Hive-32B model excels compared to competitors like OpenAI’s GPT-5.4 and Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.6, based on two critical benchmarks: WindowsAgentArena and ScreenSpot-v2. The company argues that its model operates at a significantly lower cost, boasting an estimated tenfold reduction in expense per task compared to leading APIs. As the startup ventures into a competitive landscape, it aims to position itself as a frontrunner in AI-driven office automation, a field that is rapidly gaining traction. Major players, including Anthropic and OpenAI, are also exploring similar technologies, with Anthropic recently acquiring the Seattle-based startup Vercept to enhance its capabilities in this area. Ritankar Das, Prentis's CEO, is known for his impressive academic background and entrepreneurial spirit. He founded Titan, a holding company focused on nurturing AI ventures, after leaving a PhD program at Cambridge. Titan has successfully launched various AI initiatives, including Tala Health and Forta Health, further showcasing Das's commitment to advancing AI technologies. Meanwhile, co-founders Hoffman and Pincus are also involved in other ambitious projects. Hoffman is transitioning into a ‘founder mode’ role at Manas AI, a startup focused on drug discovery, while Pincus continues to guide his investment firm, Reinvent Capital. With a growing team of over 25 employees, including experts from leading tech firms, Prentis is poised to make a significant impact in the AI landscape.
