Coursera joins OpenAI’s first generation of ChatGPT apps to make education more accessible

Coursera has officially teamed up with OpenAI to integrate its verified online learning resources directly into the ChatGPT platform. This groundbreaking partnership, unveiled during OpenAI’s DevDay 2025, marks the first instance where an online education service is embedded within the popular chatbot, aiming to make high-quality educational content more accessible and interactive for users across the globe. With over 800 million weekly users engaging with ChatGPT, education ranks as one of the most sought-after applications of the technology. Thanks to this new collaboration, users can now access Coursera's rich library of videos and esteemed course materials seamlessly during their ChatGPT conversations. They can either invoke the app by name or find it suggested automatically when ChatGPT detects that Coursera content could enhance the dialogue. Greg Hart, CEO of Coursera, expressed that this partnership embodies the shared vision of both organizations to widen educational access and foster learning opportunities for everyone. “By placing verified, trusted learning resources into the hands of hundreds of millions, we help individuals acquire the skills necessary for economic advancement and prepare for future job markets,” he stated. Leah Belsky, OpenAI’s VP of Education, emphasized that this collaboration merges human expertise with AI-driven exploration. She remarked, “ChatGPT is rapidly becoming a primary resource for those eager to learn something new. The most impactful learning occurs when human insight and AI are combined.” With Coursera’s renowned educators and institutions integrated into ChatGPT, learners can now navigate to reliable content, develop job-ready skills, and unlock new professional avenues with ease. Utilizing OpenAI’s new Apps SDK, the Coursera app represents a significant advancement in personalized learning. By embedding Coursera’s extensive content directly within ChatGPT, users can transition from curiosity to certification more efficiently and confidently. The app is accessible to all logged-in ChatGPT users outside the EU, across Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans, with initial offerings in English and additional video subtitles and dubbing available in select languages.
