Jack & Jill raises $20 million to bring conversational AI to job-hunting

The job-hunting landscape has become increasingly chaotic, muddled by endless scrolling through job boards and the rise of AI-generated applications. Matt Wilson, a seasoned entrepreneur based in London, highlights the challenges faced by job seekers and employers alike. "When a job is posted on LinkedIn, it can attract up to 1,000 applicants within just six hours," he notes. However, many companies struggle to sift through this overwhelming influx, often overlooking qualified candidates due to the low signal-to-noise ratio. In response to these issues, Wilson has unveiled Jack & Jill, a groundbreaking platform designed to transform the recruitment process using conversational AI. The company announced today that it has secured $20 million in seed funding, spearheaded by EU investor Creandum. Although still in its early stages, Jack & Jill is already operational in London, boasting nearly 50,000 users. With this fresh capital, Wilson aims to expand the platform into the U.S. market. Wilson believes that the job search process has remained largely stagnant since the emergence of platforms like LinkedIn and Indeed two decades ago. He argues that with the advent of AI chatbots influencing workplaces globally, now is the opportune moment to innovate the hiring process. Jack & Jill operates as a dual-platform system. The "Jack" component caters to job seekers, offering a 20-minute AI-driven interview to craft tailored profiles that match them to suitable roles from various online databases. Additionally, users can utilize Jack for mock interviews and professional coaching. Conversely, the "Jill" segment focuses on employers, helping them define job roles and highlight candidates who meet their criteria. Much like LinkedIn, the platform encourages active engagement from both job seekers and hiring managers, facilitating timely interactions as needed. Jack & Jill charges a standard commission for successful hires, and as the platform evolves, Wilson envisions making it an indispensable tool for both candidates and employers. Although the concept may seem similar to traditional recruiting systems augmented by AI, Wilson emphasizes that the use of conversational chatbots represents a significant leap forward. By prioritizing chatbot-facilitated interviews, he aims to create a more efficient and scalable alternative to the conventional job application process. The practice of employing AI for initial interviews is gaining traction worldwide, notably in China, where multinational firms are already utilizing it for local recruitment. While the idea of interacting with an AI hiring manager may feel daunting, Wilson is optimistic that Jack & Jill's methodology will enhance the overall effectiveness of job placements. "The current mapping of job seekers to employers is highly inefficient," Wilson asserts. "There are billions of individuals who could find more suitable positions, and that is a mission worth pursuing."
