In an era where verifying customer identities has become a standard online practice, a new startup named TruSources is stepping into the spotlight. Traditionally, identity checks have required individuals to upload government-issued IDs and selfies for verification, raising significant privacy concerns. With age verification laws gaining traction in countries like the U.S., the U.K., and Australia, the demand for reliable ID-checking services has surged. However, the apprehension surrounding the potential misuse of personal data has left many wary. TruSources is poised to address these privacy and security issues by enabling age verification and identity checks directly on users' devices. This innovative approach ensures that sensitive information never leaves the user's phone, alleviating fears of data breaches and unauthorized access. The company will showcase its groundbreaking technology at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025, scheduled for October 27-29 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Founded by Sanjay Krishnamurthy, a former WhatsApp engineer specializing in encryption, TruSources aims to combat scams that exploit individuals' personal data. The startup has developed a deepfake detection application alongside its 'know your customer' (KYC) app, which verifies a user's identity swiftly on their device. Unlike many competitors, TruSources does not upload user data to its servers, instead employing a proprietary machine learning model that identifies patterns in a custom dataset designed to detect deepfakes and fraudulent identities. This technology can seamlessly integrate with various applications and websites needing to comply with age verification laws, as well as corporate single-sign-on services. Additionally, it can generate QR codes for real-world applications, such as allowing patrons to verify their age at bars without disclosing sensitive identity documents. Krishnamurthy emphasizes that his technology not only aids compliance with KYC regulations but also protects companies from the burden of collecting sensitive identity documents, all while safeguarding user privacy. "Countries are increasingly mandating that apps verify ages, creating significant challenges for companies that do not want to handle global ID documentation due to complex legal ramifications," he explains. As TruSources embarks on its journey, it stands out as a pioneering force in the realm of identity verification and age checks, committed to maintaining user privacy and security.
