Moonvalley’s ‘ethical’ AI video model for filmmakers is now publicly available

Moonvalley, an innovative startup based in Los Angeles, has recently made waves in the filmmaking community by publicly launching its cutting-edge AI video generation model, Marey. Unlike conventional text-to-video systems, Marey adopts a "hybrid" approach, offering filmmakers greater control over their creations. Initially introduced in beta in March, Marey is now available through a subscription model that provides monthly credits. Users can purchase 100 credits for $14.99, 250 credits for $34.99, or 1,000 credits for $149.99, allowing the generation of video clips up to five seconds long, aligning with industry standards. Reflecting on his experiences in Puerto Rico, Soto notes the financial barriers to traditional filmmaking, stating, "Back home, we needed to ask for permission to tell our stories. AI gives you the ability to do it on your own terms." Soto reports that using Marey has significantly reduced his production costs by 20% to 40%, facilitating a more liberated creative process. His prior collaboration with Moonvalley’s studio, Asteria, on the HBO docuseries "Menudo: Forever Young" showcases the practical application of this innovative technology. Naeem Talukdar, co-founder and CEO of Moonvalley, demonstrated Marey's capabilities to TechCrunch. He explained how the model can be leveraged in both pre-production and post-production phases, allowing filmmakers to test scenes or adjust camera angles seamlessly. Marey’s understanding of physical dynamics enables innovative storytelling techniques, mimicking realistic motion while adhering to the laws of physics. For instance, footage of a bison running can be transformed into a Cadillac navigating the same landscape, with the environment reacting accurately to the vehicle’s movements. Additionally, Marey can overlay characters onto actors, ensuring that gestures and facial expressions are seamlessly integrated. A standout feature of Marey is its support for free camera motion, allowing users to manipulate camera angles intuitively with their mouse. Talukdar showcased this by integrating dynamic camera movements into a video, and highlighted Marey’s ability to create footage reminiscent of both handheld and dolly shots. Moreover, Marey can modify video backgrounds, enabling filmmakers to evolve their scenes from existing footage. Talukdar illustrated this capability through a video transformation that altered a motorcyclist's environment. Looking ahead, Moonvalley plans to enhance Marey with new features, including advanced lighting controls, deep object trajectories, and expanded character libraries, positioning itself in a competitive market alongside other AI video generation tools.
