A groundbreaking startup has successfully raised $9.7 million in seed funding for its AI-powered copilot designed to assist mechanical engineers. Based in Massachusetts, Leo AI has developed a sophisticated tool known as a large mechanical model (LMM), which is trained on an extensive range of engineering materials, including sketches and peer-reviewed articles. Engineers can interact with this AI by entering queries such as, "show me a bolt that fits this hole," allowing the system to provide accurate results. In addition to text queries, users can upload sketches and 3D designs, enabling them to visualize their concepts effectively. Co-founder and CEO Maor Farid emphasized the uniqueness of their product, stating, "We developed the first AI to understand geometry and engineering. Our LMM can interpret machine parts as tokens and convert them into assembly models." One of the primary goals of Leo AI is to alleviate the time burden that mechanical engineers face while performing repetitive tasks, like searching for parts. The startup operates on a subscription model, catering to notable clients such as Scania, HP, and Siemens. Farid commented on their approach, saying, "We are rebelling against very expensive or long-term contract relationships, and we offer small subscriptions — with the smallest package lasting just a month." The funding round, led by Flint Capital, attracted investments from various sources, including an A16z scout, Tech Aviv, Two Lanterns VC, and Google VP Yossi Matias. With this new capital, Leo AI aims to accelerate its product development and enhance its offerings.
