National Statistics Office unveils MCP to plug official data directly into AI and analytics tools

The National Statistics Office (NSO) has introduced a groundbreaking beta version of a data access interface that allows users to seamlessly integrate official government statistics into artificial intelligence and analytics platforms. This initiative aims to transform the way public data is accessed and utilized. Unveiled on February 6 by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), the Model Context Protocol (MCP) server is now linked with the government’s eSankhyiki portal, a central repository for official statistics. This innovative technology enables users to query datasets in real-time, eliminating the need to download large files and facilitating automated analysis, reporting, and integration with tailored AI applications. According to the ministry, this advancement means users can dedicate less time to accessing data and more to critical analysis and informed decision-making. The initial beta version features seven key statistical products, including the Periodic Labour Force Survey, Consumer Price Index, Annual Survey of Industries, and more. The ministry has indicated that additional datasets will be rolled out in the coming months, driven by user feedback and technical readiness. Designed to enhance accessibility for citizens, researchers, and businesses, the MCP server supports data-driven policymaking across various government levels. It allows users to query multiple datasets through a single connection, thus streamlining the process and reducing the manual effort typically involved in handling large data files. The launch of this server precedes the upcoming AI Impact Summit, scheduled for February 15–20, 2026, and underscores the ministry's commitment to leveraging emerging technologies like AI to create significant improvements in the data ecosystem. Users can access the MCP server via the MoSPI website, with plans for further products from the eSankhyiki portal to be incorporated progressively.
