In an age where streaming platforms are overflowing with options, finding the right movie or series can feel like an endless search. To enhance user experience, JioHotstar has introduced an innovative feature that streamlines content discovery. Partnering with OpenAI, the platform has woven a ChatGPT-powered voice discovery tool into its app, allowing users to express their viewing preferences in natural language and receive tailored recommendations. The rollout of this feature began in February 2026, and after several days of testing, we’ve gained insights into its effectiveness. The integration of ChatGPT into the JioHotstar app is designed to be user-friendly and accessible. The ChatGPT icon is conveniently located at the bottom of the screen alongside other primary tabs for TV, Movies, and Sports. A simple tap opens a chat interface reminiscent of ChatGPT’s Voice Mode, where users can either verbally input their requests or type them out using the keyboard icon. Once users submit a prompt, a captivating blue light animation signals that the system is processing. Shortly thereafter, a curated list of content tailored to the request appears. A standout feature is the follow-up suggestions; for instance, if users ask for romantic comedy options, they can refine their search further with prompts like “more romance,” or “more comedy.” Additionally, a disclaimer appears with each set of recommendations, cautioning users that “AI can be inaccurate. Please check critical information.” Feedback is encouraged through thumbs-up or thumbs-down buttons, allowing users to personalize their experience even further. The ChatGPT integration transforms how users discover content on JioHotstar. Users can input specific requests like, “Suggest a crime series with a strong female lead but not excessively violent,” and receive a tailored list of available series. Recommendations are just a click away, facilitating a seamless viewing experience. The feature also adapts to various prompts related to genres, moods, and content types, including sports. For example, sports enthusiasts can ask, “Show me that last wicket again,” or “Who is currently the top scorer?” and receive real-time updates from live matches. However, it's important to note that we have yet to fully explore the feature's performance in different languages. Early tests indicate that ChatGPT sometimes struggles with prompts in Hindi, occasionally responding with, “I can’t handle that request here,” and suggesting users continue on the main ChatGPT platform. This area warrants further exploration to understand the tool's effectiveness across diverse use cases and regional languages. Overall, the initial impressions of JioHotstar's ChatGPT feature suggest a significant stride towards intuitive and personalized content discovery, particularly for users who often find themselves unsure of what to watch next.
