Former MrBeast content strategist is building an AI tool for creator ideation and analytics

The demand for short videos continues to surge across major platforms like Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok, where billions of videos are consumed daily. As creators strive to stay relevant in this content-saturated environment, the pressure to produce more is immense, especially with the rise of AI-generated content. Jay Neo, a former content strategist for MrBeast, envisions a solution that leverages AI to assist creators in understanding their audience and generating innovative content ideas. Neo, who joined MrBeast at the young age of 18, focused on enhancing viewer retention through meticulous analysis of video metrics. His deep dive into these statistics led him to develop engaging content that resonated with audiences, including a viral video where he asked strangers if they would fly to Paris for a baguette, amassing over 1.8 billion views. Following his departure from MrBeast in 2023, Neo, along with ex-Palantir engineer Shivam Kumar and creator Harry Jones, launched Palo—a platform designed to support creators in their content creation journey. Palo comprises three main features: an AI-powered ideation and planning tool, analytics, and a community component. The application allows creators to link all their social media accounts, enabling it to analyze their short videos and provide actionable insights. Kumar, the startup's CTO, elaborated on how Palo utilizes a variety of models to create a comprehensive data profile that includes audience sentiment, trending topics, originality, and related search terms. The tool's conversational interface functions like a chatbot, allowing creators to inquire about their content and receive tailored scripts or storyboards based on their unique styles. Although the community aspect is still in its early stages, it provides a platform for creators to connect and share insights. Currently, Palo is being rolled out to creators with a minimum of 100,000 followers at a subscription fee starting at $250 per month, with higher tiers available for increased usage. The startup has successfully raised $3.8 million in funding from investors including Peak XV’s Surge, NFX, and individual backers. Rajan Anandan, managing director at Peak XV, highlighted the team's experience in creative processes and technical expertise as key factors in their investment decision. Josh Constine, an investor and former TechCrunch editor, echoed the potential of Palo to alleviate the strain on creators facing relentless content demands. He shared his personal struggles with burnout, emphasizing the time-consuming nature of staying updated with viral trends and algorithms. Palo's introduction comes at a critical juncture, amid growing tensions between AI tools and the creator community. While platforms are increasingly incorporating AI, concerns about the potential homogenization of content loom large. Neo acknowledged this challenge, stating that while AI can guide creators towards success, the essence of impactful content still stems from genuine creativity and intuition. He likened the process to a comedian refining their material based on audience reactions, suggesting that AI could provide creators with similar insights to enhance their craft.
