America’s first LiFi internet in New York? Indian firm Nav Wireless claims so

Nav Wireless Technologies, a company based in Gujarat, has announced the launch of what it claims to be America's first commercial LiFi internet system in New York City. This groundbreaking technology has been installed at the Silicon Harlem office through a collaboration with JESCO Venture Labs, a business consulting firm. Hardik Soni, the Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of Nav Wireless, highlighted the significance of this launch, describing it as a proud achievement not only for their company but also for India. He stated, "Launching LiFi in New York is not just a milestone for Nav Wireless; it showcases the potential of made-in-India innovations to reshape the world’s digital future with connectivity that is faster, safer, and free from interference." Nav Wireless Technologies asserts that it is among a select few companies globally to possess patented LiFi technology. The primary distinction between LiFi and traditional Wi-Fi lies in their data transmission methods. While Wi-Fi transmits data via radio frequencies, LiFi utilizes visible light, offering benefits such as higher internet speeds, enhanced security, and reduced electromagnetic interference, making it particularly suitable for environments like hospitals. However, LiFi does come with limitations, including a shorter range and the necessity for a direct line of sight, as it relies on existing LED lighting or specialized equipment. In contrast, Wi-Fi provides broader coverage and better penetration through obstacles. Nav Wireless has plans to expand its LiFi technology across the United States in partnership with JESCO Venture Labs. The company aims to introduce its innovative solutions to various sectors, including government agencies, defense organizations, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, airports, and financial services. This initiative is also poised to set the stage for a future equipped for '6G-ready' optical wireless technology, according to the company’s statement.
