In June, I highlighted a significant challenge with the Switch 2: the thin Joy-Con 2 controllers lack an extended grip, making them uncomfortable to hold during gameplay. My initial response indicated that I would likely need an accessory like the Nyxi Hyperion Pro for a more enjoyable gaming experience on the original Switch. Fast forward over six months, and Nyxi has introduced the Hyperion 3, now available for pre-order ahead of its release on March 1. While this new controller promises to enhance comfort, it comes at a premium price. Currently, the market is filled with third-party controllers for the Switch 2, but none replicate the unique magnetic connection that the official Joy-Cons have with the console tablet. This magnetic feature is what sets the Hyperion 3 apart, providing a seamless handheld experience with the Switch 2. Though I haven't yet had the chance to try the Hyperion 3 myself, my previous experience with the Hyperion 2 on the original Switch leads me to believe that its ergonomic design will significantly improve gameplay. The small buttons and flat back of the official Joy-Cons often lead to discomfort, something Nyxi has acknowledged in its marketing campaign that boldly states, "Say Goodbye to Tendonitis." Additionally, the Hyperion 3 supports wireless connectivity through Bluetooth 5.0, allowing players to easily transition to docked mode, unlike some replacements that are limited to portable use.
