Miraqules will showcase its blood clotting technology at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025

Sabir Hossain, co-founder and CEO of Miraqules, has always aspired to emulate his father's entrepreneurial journey. Little did he know that his path would lead to the creation of a biotech firm centered around a groundbreaking technology that could have saved his father's life during a near-fatal accident years ago. Based in Bengaluru, Miraqules has developed an innovative powder-based nanotechnology that mimics the action of blood clotting proteins. This remarkable powder can rapidly generate fibrous compounds at room temperature, allowing it to absorb blood almost instantaneously when applied. "This is a product that will give you feedback instantly," Hossain explained. "If someone is bleeding, you apply it, and the bleeding stops—often within one or two minutes." Miraqules has earned its place as a Top 20 Startup Battlefield finalist and is set to showcase this life-saving technology at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 in San Francisco this week. Hossain's journey to creating this technology was somewhat serendipitous. He began his studies in biomedical engineering and worked in a research lab focusing on biomaterials, where he encountered challenges replicating advanced 3D structures for bone tissue growth. "I was actually struggling with that task," Hossain admitted, recalling how the materials he synthesized kept falling apart. One day, in a moment of creativity, he ground the failed particles into a powder and presented it to a team working on blood clotting solutions that were having difficulties mixing their own products. To their astonishment, his powder caused blood to clot within seconds. This pivotal moment inspired Hossain and his professor to explore the underlying mechanisms, leading to the development of a novel method that combined readily available materials into a nanomaterial that effectively mimics blood clotting proteins. Together with childhood friend Mubeen Midda, Hossain focused on advancing the technology beyond the lab, doing so with minimal funding. Miraqules has since secured 11 patents across seven countries, including India, the United States, and Israel. The technology is currently being piloted at a trauma care center in India, with regulatory approval expected soon. Furthermore, the company anticipates receiving clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration by 2026. From the outset, Miraqules engaged with the U.S. FDA through a pre-submission process, seeking guidance on necessary steps for product approval. This strategy has significantly benefitted their development journey. Remarkably, the company has achieved these milestones with less than $700,000 in capital raised, primarily from grants. As Miraqules prepares for the future, it is looking to expand its deployment and pilot programs, having already garnered interest from 10 hospital chains in India and the Israeli Defense Forces. For those eager to learn more about Miraqules and witness a variety of pitches, valuable workshops, and business networking opportunities, the TechCrunch Disrupt event will take place from October 27 to 29 in San Francisco.
