Android users can now share tracker tag info with airlines to help locate lost luggage

In a significant enhancement to its Android ecosystem, Google unveiled a host of exciting new features on Tuesday, coinciding with the March software update for Pixel phones, dubbed Pixel Drop. Among the standout features is an innovative solution for travelers dealing with lost luggage. Android users can now integrate a Find Hub-compatible tracker tag with their luggage, enabling them to share a unique link with participating airlines. This newly implemented feature simplifies the process of locating lost bags. By accessing the Find Hub app, users can select their misplaced item and choose the option to 'share item location,' generating a secure URL. This link can then be easily pasted into the airline’s mobile app or website, facilitating real-time luggage tracking. Google emphasizes that this link will automatically expire after a week, and sharing is disabled once the user’s phone detects that the luggage has been returned. Currently, over ten major airlines, including Ajet, Air India, and Lufthansa Group (comprising Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Swiss International Airlines), among others, are adopting this feature as part of their baggage recovery systems. Plans for future partnerships with additional airlines are already in motion. In addition to the luggage tracking feature, Google introduced various enhancements across its services. Android users can now share their locations directly through Google Messages, allowing real-time visibility on a shared map. Furthermore, Google Play will feature a new feed of short-form videos to help users discover apps more intuitively. To enhance the calling experience, the Google Phone app is rolling out 'Calling Cards,' enabling users to personalize the appearance of contact screens for incoming calls, similar to the Contact Poster feature on iPhones. For Android Auto users, educational gaming experiences designed for children aged 3 to 12 are now available, encouraging learning through interactive play. The Pixel series also received noteworthy updates, including an enhanced Circle to Search feature with a 'Find the Look' tool that identifies clothing items. Additionally, a new 'Try It On' capability allows users to visualize outfits pulled from videos and messages. The At a Glance widget has been updated to provide real-time transit information, live sports scores, and daily updates on market movers from Google Finance. Moreover, Pixel Watch users can expect new functionalities, such as alerts for when they leave their phones behind and the ability to automatically lock their phones when out of range, safeguarding their devices from unauthorized access. Gesture controls for Pixel Watch 3 users have also been introduced, enabling hands-free actions like answering calls and taking photos with simple wrist movements.
