LG Display starts mass-producing LTPO-like 1 Hz LCD displays for laptops

LG Display has unveiled its latest innovation in laptop technology: a groundbreaking LCD screen capable of dynamically adjusting its refresh rate from as low as 1 Hz to a maximum of 120 Hz. This advancement, announced this week, positions LG as the first manufacturer to produce these versatile displays on a large scale, aiming to enhance battery efficiency significantly. The new screens, branded as Oxide 1Hz, are engineered to detect the content displayed. For static images, such as emails or e-books, the refresh rate drops to an energy-saving 1 Hz. However, when users engage with dynamic content—like streaming videos or playing fast-paced games—the refresh rate can ramp up to 120 Hz, ensuring a smooth viewing experience. To achieve this cutting-edge functionality, LG has developed proprietary algorithms and innovative panel designs. The company highlighted its use of new materials that minimize power leakage in low-refresh-rate mode, optimizing the performance of the thin-film transistor used in the display.
