In a startling disclosure, a confidential informant informed the FBI in 2017 that Jeffrey Epstein was associated with a so-called 'personal hacker.' This information comes from documents made public by the Department of Justice, part of an ongoing effort to disclose records linked to the investigation of the deceased financier and convicted sex offender. The newly released document does not name the hacker, but provides intriguing details about their background and skills. Allegedly hailing from Italy's Calabria region, this hacker was said to be an expert in discovering weaknesses in various technologies, including iOS systems, BlackBerry devices, and the Firefox browser. The informant claimed that the hacker was involved in creating zero-day exploits and offensive cyber tools, which were reportedly sold to multiple nations, such as an unnamed central African government, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Notably, the informant alleged that the hacker sold a zero-day exploit to Hezbollah, receiving payment in a 'trunk of cash.' They emphasized the hacker's exceptional proficiency in identifying vulnerabilities, raising questions about the extent of their activities. It is crucial to note that these claims originate solely from the informant and have not been verified by the FBI, leading to uncertainties regarding their reliability. The FBI has chosen not to comment on this matter, and the Justice Department also did not provide a response to inquiries. On the same day, the Justice Department announced the release of an additional 3.5 million pages of documents from the Epstein case, which includes over 2,000 videos and 180,000 images, some of which have been heavily redacted. These revelations continue to add layers of complexity to the ongoing investigation into Epstein's activities.
