It’s back! The 2027 Chevy Bolt gets an all-new LFP battery, but what else?

The Chevrolet Bolt, a pioneer in the electric vehicle market, is making a comeback with exciting updates for the 2027 model year. Known for its impressive range of over 200 miles (321 km) at an attractive price point, the Bolt captured the hearts of many drivers since its debut in 2017. It even managed to hold its own against the VW Golf GTI, despite being slower to charge. This performance helped the Bolt secure its position as General Motors' top-selling electric vehicle, even after facing a significant recall due to battery issues. In 2023, GM announced plans to discontinue the Bolt, which led to significant backlash from fans and current owners. Responding to this outcry, GM's CEO, Mary Barra, reversed course, promising a return for the beloved model with a revamped battery system. The 2027 Bolt will retain its familiar exterior design, but it will feature vibrant new color options and an additional trim level. Under the hood, the most notable change is the introduction of a 65 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack. This innovative battery technology replaces the previous nickel cobalt aluminum cells, allowing for faster charging capabilities. The new Bolt will support charging up to 150 kW through its NACS port, enabling a 10–80% charge in just 26 minutes, according to Chevy. Additionally, the vehicle will offer bidirectional charging, allowing it to power homes with the right equipment. While the new model will have a slightly reduced range of 255 miles (410 km), it promises to deliver a refreshed and efficient driving experience.
