In a bid to join the end-of-year celebration trend, OpenAI has launched 'Your Year with ChatGPT,' a new retrospective feature for its app. This update, which rolled out on Monday, provides users with insights into their chat experiences, including the primary themes of their interactions and a tally of messages exchanged. Available in the US, UK, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, the recap can be accessed by users with Free, Pro, and Plus accounts. However, those using business or enterprise accounts will not have this functionality, making it impossible for them to showcase their ChatGPT statistics to colleagues. To view their personalized recap, users simply need to click the plus button in the app and request, "Show me my year with ChatGPT." This engaging feature displays a poetic introduction, followed by a summary of the three most significant themes drawn from the user's chat history. Users can also check their messaging statistics, including total messages sent, overall chats, and their most active day, along with a whimsical count of em-dashes used during conversations. The recap not only highlights chat statistics but also assesses users' communication styles. For instance, one might learn they engage in conversation 'casually, wryly, and directly.' Additionally, users receive playful awards based on their activity, such as 'Most Likely to Google, 'Is this Flight Worth It?''—a humorous nod to the utility of ChatGPT itself. Each user's archetype is also revealed, indicating their unique approach to using the platform. In a creative twist, the recap includes AI-generated pixel art that reflects the user's experiences over the year. Users can even look ahead to 2026, unveiling playful predictions by refreshing the page. The experience concludes with an encouraging message from ChatGPT, emphasizing the value of exploration and reflection throughout the year. 'Across all the drafts, questions, and rabbit holes, you found a place to work things out,' the recap states. 'And that's no small thing.'
