In a remarkable first-quarter earnings report released on Thursday, Reddit announced a significant increase in both profit and revenue, surpassing analyst predictions. Following the announcement, the company's stock experienced a 6% increase in after-hours trading. Reddit's revenue soared by 69%, climbing to $392 million from the previous year's figure. In terms of net income, the company reported a substantial rise to $204 million, equating to $1.01 per share, compared to just $26 million, or 13 cents per share, during the same period last year. Looking ahead, Reddit provided an encouraging forecast for the second quarter, estimating sales to fall between $715 million and $725 million. This projection surpassed analysts’ expectations of $712 million. Additionally, the company anticipates adjusted earnings in the range of $285 million to $295 million, also exceeding the average estimate of $276 million. These impressive results echo a broader trend in the online advertising industry, as both Meta and Alphabet posted increased revenues in their recent earnings reports, reflecting their fastest growth in years. Notably, both companies are also planning to boost their investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure. In terms of user engagement, Reddit reported a 17% year-over-year increase in daily active unique users, reaching 126.8 million, slightly ahead of the anticipated 125.9 million. The average revenue per user (ARPU) stood at $5.23, surpassing the expected $4.81. Specifically, the U.S. ARPU was reported at $9.63, exceeding Wall Street's projection of $8.53. CEO Steve Huffman emphasized the unique qualities of Reddit, stating, "Reddit is a one-of-one business powered by deeply engaged communities and authentic human conversation. This foundation is driving a rare combination of growth, profitability, and efficiency, giving Reddit a unique advantage in the age of AI."
