In a significant move, Reddit has announced the expansion of its AI-driven search functionality to include five additional languages: French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. This update now allows users in countries such as Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Italy to interact with the AI in a question-and-answer format, provided they have selected one of these languages as their default instead of English. Powered by a Google AI model, this enhanced search feature first made its debut last year and has been progressively refined for broader accessibility. It operates within the Reddit Answers framework, complementing the platform's traditional search capabilities. During a quarterly earnings call in August, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman highlighted that the platform's search is currently utilized by over 70 million users weekly, while Reddit Answers attracts more than 6 million users. The popularity of Q&A-style search and chat interfaces has surged, particularly following the integration of web search capabilities into tools like ChatGPT. Traditional search engines, including Google and Brave, have begun to adopt similar features to boost user engagement, while emerging startups such as Perplexity are leveraging chat-based search models to capture interest in this evolving digital landscape.
