On Wednesday evening, Reddit, the widely-used social media platform, encountered a considerable outage that left countless users unable to access the site. The disruption began around 9:30 PM IST (noon ET), affecting users primarily in the United States and India. Many reported that their homepage feeds, subreddits, and comment sections were failing to load. As users attempted to navigate the site, they were met with a frustrating 'no content to display' message, rendering profiles, posts, and comments inaccessible. The outage impacted both the website and mobile applications. According to real-time monitoring platform DownDetector, over 2,500 users in India indicated issues around the same time, with 46% experiencing app-related problems, 39% unable to access the website, and 15% facing server connection difficulties. In the United States, the situation was even more severe, with more than 100,000 users reporting issues. Of those, 56% cited troubles with the app, 33% had issues accessing the website, and 11% faced server connection problems. Reddit's official status account on X acknowledged the outage, stating, "Identified: We've identified the cause of the issue and are working to address it," though no specific timeline for resolution has been provided. Reddit, which hosts millions of communities and fosters lively discussions on a vast array of topics, remains partially inaccessible for many users. They are encouraged to keep an eye on the platform’s status page or its official social media channels for further updates. In the meantime, social media platforms like X and Instagram have been inundated with memes and humorous posts as users took to the internet to share their reactions. One user, @andrew29834, humorously depicted the chaos with a GIF of people running, captioning it, "Everyone rushing to X to check if Reddit is down for the 30th time this week." Another user quipped, "Reddit being down scares me so much because I always think my account got suspended."
