Realme India confirms job cuts, denies link to Oppo reintegration

On February 10, Realme India confirmed the occurrence of layoffs, clarifying that these job reductions stem from an internal restructuring initiative rather than being associated with its recent reintegration with Oppo, which had sparked considerable speculation. The smartphone manufacturer described the layoffs as part of an "ongoing organizational optimization exercise," asserting that this step aligns with standard industry practices. A spokesperson for Realme stated, "This adjustment is part of Realme India’s ongoing organizational optimization and is in line with normal industry benchmarks." The company aimed to separate the job cuts from its recent operational changes involving Oppo, which saw Realme functioning as a sub-label starting last month, leading to concerns about potential workforce consolidations. The spokesperson emphasized that the layoffs were not related to any other brands and reassured stakeholders that the company’s products, retail presence, and service commitments would remain intact. "Realme remains deeply committed to the Indian market and will continue to uphold our mission of making technology more accessible, serving millions of users, and creating sustained long-term value," they added. While the specifics regarding the scale of the layoffs and affected departments were not disclosed, previous media reports indicated that initial job cuts impacted sales and support teams, with employees being notified of the restructuring. Reports also suggested that impacted employees had been asked to resign by April 30, 2026, and that additional layoffs across other divisions might occur as part of the restructuring process. Despite these changes, the company reiterated its status as an independent brand, maintaining its unique identity within the broader Oppo framework.
