Raspberry Pi has just launched an exciting new accessory for tech enthusiasts: the 5-inch Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2. This 720p IPS multi-touch screen is designed specifically for those looking to create innovative touchscreen devices using Raspberry Pi boards. Priced at just $40, the display is now available for purchase through various Pi resellers, although some may be listing it slightly above the manufacturer's suggested retail price. One of the standout features of this display is its plug-and-play capability. According to Gordon Hollingworth, the software CTO at Raspberry Pi, the capacitive touchscreen is fully supported by Linux drivers, eliminating the need for manual calibration or dealing with incompatible touch controllers. This ease of use makes it an attractive option for makers and developers alike. The new 5-inch touchscreen is a compact version of the previously released 7-inch Pi Touch Display 2, which retails for $60. Both displays share the same 720p resolution, but the larger model offers slightly wider viewing angles—85 degrees compared to the 5-inch's 80 degrees. Compatibility is broad, as both screens can be used with all Raspberry Pi boards from the 2014 Raspberry Pi 1 B+ onward, with the exception of the Raspberry Pi Zero. Power is supplied through the board's GPIO header, and a ribbon cable connects to the DSI port for display signals, making integration straightforward for all sorts of projects.
