Quora's AI platform, Poe, has announced an exciting new feature: an API that enables developers to effortlessly integrate various AI models and bots into their applications. This innovative API is unique in that it does not require a separate fee; instead, usage is accounted for through Poe's existing point-based subscription plans. Each model call consumes a specific number of points. For example, generating a low-quality image using GPT-4o in a 1:1 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1024 x 1024 pixels will cost 328 points. Poe offers several subscription plans, starting from $4.99 per month for 10,000 points per day, up to $249.99 per month for 12.5 million points. Additionally, developers can purchase extra points at a rate of $30 for one million tokens, allowing for flexible spending based on their needs. This API opens up possibilities for developers to enhance their applications with tools such as Cursor, Cline, Continue, Roo, and more, all of which are compatible with OpenAI's chat completion APIs. Poe currently supports over 100 models that span various modalities, including voice, text, image, and video generation. Notable models available include Imagen 4, GPT Image 1, Flux Kontext, Seedream 3.0, Veo 3, Runway Gen 4 Turbo, Kling 2.1, ElevenLabs, and Lyria. Gareth Jones, Poe's Product Lead for Creators and Developers, shared insights with TechCrunch about future enhancements for the API, including the ability for developers to utilize private bots they have created on the platform and improved key management features. While the current API allows for model selection and management, Poe also offers tools designed for consumer use. Earlier this year, the platform introduced user-friendly options for creating AI-powered applications, along with templates for server bots, prompt bots, and image generation bots. Currently, developers must manage model usage manually, but Jones indicated that the company is considering the introduction of budget management tools in response to developer feedback, indicating a commitment to continuous improvement and support for its user community.
