Remember HQ? ‘Quiz Daddy’ Scott Rogowsky is back with TextSavvy, a daily mobile game show

Scott Rogowsky, known for his comedic flair, is making a comeback with his latest mobile game show, TextSavvy. At New York City Comic Con, he humorously roamed the venue with a 'Wanted' poster of himself, playfully asking attendees if they recognized him. Many did, recalling his time as the charismatic host of HQ Trivia, a live mobile game show that once captivated millions before fading into obscurity. Between 2017 and 2019, Rogowsky became a household name as he hosted HQ Trivia twice daily, attracting over 2.4 million viewers at its peak and amassing 20 million downloads overall. Now, he's stepping back into the spotlight with Savvy, an app that channels the spirit of HQ. The inaugural game, TextSavvy, is a live word puzzle competition where players can win cash, competing directly against Rogowsky in a format reminiscent of popular word games like Wordle. Reflecting on his past, Rogowsky acknowledges the meteoric rise and fall of HQ Trivia, founded by the creators of Vine. The app became a cultural phenomenon, prompting people to drop daily tasks to join in at 3 p.m. But the excitement was short-lived as the company faced tragic and tumultuous events, including the overdose of one founder and internal conflicts that plagued its leadership. Ultimately, HQ Trivia filed for bankruptcy in February 2020, becoming a case study in startup failures. After leaving HQ, Rogowsky briefly hosted a show on MLB Network, which was abruptly canceled due to the pandemic. He considered stepping away from the entertainment world completely, even opening a vintage store in California. However, a transformative experience during a seven-day retreat reignited his passion, leading him to realize he still had much to offer in the realm of entertainment. TextSavvy introduces a new interactive element where Rogowsky competes against players, enhancing the engagement factor. Given the prevalence of AI and easy access to answers, he opted for word puzzles over trivia to ensure fairness in gameplay. While the prizes are modest compared to HQ’s earlier giveaways, Rogowsky emphasizes that Savvy is self-funded, prioritizing sustainable growth over quick financial returns. Currently in a soft launch phase dubbed 'Season 0,' TextSavvy has already attracted around 4,000 viewers in a single night without extensive marketing. Rogowsky remains optimistic, recalling how HQ Trivia started with a similar viewer count before exploding in popularity. "We’re not going anywhere this time," he asserts confidently. With no drama or external pressures, he is committed to making Savvy a thriving platform for interactive entertainment.
