Recently, QuEra announced an exciting roadmap that outlines its goal to revolutionize quantum computing. The company is set to partner with Amazon to deliver a groundbreaking quantum computer by 2028, boasting over 10,000 qubits. This ambitious system is designed to operate with a remarkably low error rate, enabling it to support hundreds of error-corrected logical qubits. Currently, QuEra's technology stands at 260 qubits, which are prone to errors. In their recent announcement, the company revealed that there will be no additional hardware releases until the launch of this new machine, which aims to leapfrog current capabilities. According to Yuval Borger from QuEra, the decision has been made to discontinue the sale of the existing noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) systems to focus on developing a significantly more advanced machine. The forthcoming quantum computer for Amazon is expected to be a game-changer. With over 10,000 physical qubits, QuEra plans to create 256 error-corrected logical qubits capable of executing operations with an astonishing 99.9999 percent accuracy. This level of precision will allow the system to perform millions of operations seamlessly. Looking further ahead, QuEra has set its sights on 2029 for the introduction of a successor model featuring twice the number of hardware qubits and the potential to support over 1,000 logical qubits. The error resistance is projected to improve even further, reaching an impressive 99.9999999 percent. QuEra's technology utilizes neutral atoms manipulated by lasers, making the increase in qubit count a matter of enhancing laser capacity. The academic laboratories that originally founded QuEra have already successfully demonstrated a 3,000 qubit system, proving the feasibility of scaling up. Additionally, they have shown the ability to replace atoms lost during operations, a critical function for maintaining the performance of these advanced machines.
