Autonomous drone startup Quantum Systems raises $1.2 billion as investors pile into defense

Quantum Systems, a pioneering startup focused on autonomous defense technology, has successfully raised $1.2 billion in a Series D funding round, valuing the company at approximately $8 billion post-money. This significant investment underscores the growing interest in military tech as investors eagerly support innovative companies in the defense sector. The funding round was spearheaded by notable firms including Blackstone, Noteus, Airbus, and Advent, with additional contributions from Bond, Fidelity Management and Research Company, Balderton, and HV Capital. Florian Seibel, co-CEO and co-founder of Quantum Systems, expressed the company’s vision, stating, "Defense will be defined by autonomous systems that can operate together across domains in real time. With Quantum Systems, we are building a next-generation neo prime that has the potential to disrupt defense as we know it today." Seibel confirmed that the company is already profitable, and the new infusion of capital will be directed towards enhancing production capabilities, bolstering supply chain resilience, scaling operations in allied markets, and further developing software and AI technologies. The defense technology sector has seen unprecedented investment this year, amassing a record $17.4 billion, significantly surpassing the $11.2 billion raised in 2022. Major fundraising efforts include U.S.-based Anduril, which secured $5 billion in May, while Saronic Technologies and Shield AI raised $1.8 billion and $2 billion in March, respectively. In Europe, Helsing is poised to raise $1.2 billion, aiming for an $18 billion valuation, as reported by the Financial Times. David Kaden, senior managing director at Blackstone, noted a substantial shift in the European defense market, creating a heightened demand for capital to foster development and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies. Quantum Systems has proven its operational capabilities, executing over 19,000 missions in Ukraine in 2025 alone. The company has also expanded its production presence across several countries, including Germany, Ukraine, the United States, Australia, Romania, the United Kingdom, and the Baltics.
