Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and Google are amplifying their long-standing collaboration aimed at propelling the development of software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and advanced agentic AI functionalities. This enhanced partnership merges Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis with Google’s automotive software, paving the way for secure and scalable AI-driven solutions to be implemented in millions of vehicles globally. At CES 2026, the companies unveiled a range of new AI-enhanced solutions, building on their Gemini Enterprise initiative for automotive announced in 2025. These innovations are designed to connect vehicles to the cloud, offering a versatile architecture that leverages both on-device and cloud capabilities. This enables real-time personalization for drivers through sophisticated voice-activated and proactive assistants, leading to vehicles that are smarter, safer, and more adaptable than ever. To facilitate rapid innovation in automotive development, Qualcomm and Google are creating a unified reference platform. This initiative aims to streamline production cycles for automakers by aligning Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms with the roadmaps of Google’s Android Automotive OS (AAOS), starting with Android 17. This collaborative effort will support automotive manufacturers in accelerating prototyping and enhancing the overall quality of automotive experiences for consumers. As part of their partnership, the two companies are also focused on scaling AAOS for SDVs through a hybrid architecture that combines on-device software with cloud development environments. Qualcomm, as the primary scaling partner, will supply pre-integrated and optimized software on Snapdragon Digital Chassis platforms, which will expedite time-to-market for automakers. A notable innovation introduced by Qualcomm is the Snapdragon vSoC virtual platform, which operates on Google Cloud’s Arm-based Axion bare metal instances. This advancement allows automakers to design, test, and validate software entirely in the cloud, eliminating the need for physical vehicle hardware. Developers can easily start building from a browser, fostering global collaboration and enhancing the efficiency of automotive software development. To further streamline Android lifecycle management, Qualcomm is rolling out Project Treble for automakers using Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms. This initiative is designed to ensure reliable and secure upgrades, covering four generations of Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms and over 14 individual systems-on-chips. A comprehensive 10-year plan for critical software updates will keep vehicles connected with the latest features throughout their lifecycle. "Our decade-long collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies has consistently driven automotive innovation, and we are excited to deepen this strategic partnership," said Patrick Brady, VP of Engineering at Google. He emphasized the importance of this collaboration in the rapidly evolving automotive sector, stating that it integrates Google’s leading software and AI capabilities with Qualcomm’s foundational hardware. Nakul Duggal, EVP and Group GM of Automotive, Industrial, and Embedded IoT & Robotics at Qualcomm, remarked that this expanded collaboration marks a pivotal moment in their journey. He highlighted how it merges Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis platforms with Google’s software and AI expertise to create technology platforms that empower automakers to innovate faster, transition to software-defined vehicles, and harness the full potential of agentic AI. This, in turn, will enable manufacturers to offer safer, smarter, and more personalized mobility solutions to consumers around the world.
