Cam Badger's journey began in the world of sales within a pharmaceutical company, where he anticipated receiving structured training and mentorship. Instead, he encountered a chaotic landscape of training, inconsistent coaching, and a lack of scalable learning solutions. After spending four years working as a sales representative and later as a sales trainer, he collaborated with Bhrugu Giri at a medical startup. Together, they recognized the deficiencies in the training of sales representatives in the life sciences sector, including pharmaceutical and medical device companies. Determined to address these challenges, Badger and Giri launched PraxisPro, a specialized sales coaching platform aimed at enhancing the skills of medical sales reps. Badger, now the CEO, believes that improving the capabilities of these sales professionals will ultimately lead to more effective treatment delivery to healthcare providers, thereby benefiting patients. “When commercial interactions with healthcare providers are ineffective, patients miss out on therapies that could significantly improve their lives,” he emphasized. Founded in 2023, PraxisPro has already made waves in the industry, securing a $6 million seed funding round led by AlleyCorp, with contributions from FlyBridge, South Loop Ventures, and Zeal Capital Partners. The platform stands out as a standalone solution while also offering integration with enterprise software. It utilizes small language models specifically trained on life sciences data to help companies effectively communicate with healthcare providers. Additionally, PraxisPro has developed an AI agent designed to assist commercial sales teams in honing their communication skills before engaging with clients. Badger highlighted the importance of effective communication in medical sales, noting that compliance is a major concern for companies, as they are accountable for ensuring that their sales messaging adheres to legal standards. The platform not only focuses on training sales representatives to remain compliant but also aims to enhance their ability to convey patient needs to healthcare providers. Currently, sales representatives typically engage in around 15 interactions with healthcare providers throughout the sales process. PraxisPro's conversational AI feature enables sales reps to practice and strategize these interactions, equipping them to handle discussions and potential pushback more effectively. While other AI role-playing tools exist, Badger points out that PraxisPro's focus is unique, as it is trained on smaller, more relevant data sets specific to the life sciences sector. The newly acquired funding will be allocated toward further research and development. Reflecting on his own past struggles as a sales rep, Badger expressed a desire to share the tools and knowledge that could have aided him during his early career. “If we can empower commercial teams to prepare, practice, and engage at a higher level consistently and responsibly, we’re not just enhancing commercial operations; we’re helping ensure that innovative therapies reach those who need them the most,” he concluded.
