TikTok users in the United States have been facing significant disruptions since Sunday, and the platform's new US ownership has identified the culprit: a power outage at a crucial data center. The TikTok USDS Joint Venture announced via X on Monday morning that they have been actively working to restore services disrupted by this incident. The joint venture stated, "Since yesterday we’ve been working to restore our services following a power outage at a US data center impacting TikTok and other apps we operate. We’re collaborating with our data center partner to stabilize our service. We apologize for this disruption and are hopeful for a swift resolution." According to reports from DownDetector, users began experiencing issues early Sunday, with a majority of the problems appearing to be resolved by Monday morning. Nevertheless, The Verge noted that some users continue to encounter challenges, including difficulties logging in, prolonged delays in video uploads, an influx of generic content on For You pages, and issues with comment access. It is evident that the TikTok USDS Joint Venture is still addressing the aftermath of the power outage. Interestingly, their initial silence during the app's glitchy performance over the weekend has led to rampant speculation on social media, with some suggesting that the new right-leaning ownership appointed by Donald Trump may be censoring left-leaning users.
