For over a century, turbochargers have been enhancing engine performance, but their integration into modern vehicles has reached unprecedented levels. These devices not only boost power but also improve fuel efficiency, making them essential for achieving optimal performance in today’s engines. However, turbocharging has often been associated with a delay in throttle response, leaving drivers waiting for the power to kick in. Porsche's engineering team has tackled this challenge head-on, as demonstrated in their recent review of the new 911 GTS. They have developed a turbocharger that delivers the exhilarating power of forced induction without the dreaded throttle lag. If one high-tech turbocharger is impressive, then two must be even better—if you can handle the price tag. Introducing the 2026 911 Turbo S, boasting an astounding 701 horsepower (523 kW), this model stands as Porsche's most powerful 911 to date. Unlike the GTS, which combined an electric motor with a larger battery, the Turbo S enhances performance by incorporating dual high-speed turbochargers. These smaller turbochargers—10 mm shorter on the compressor side and 15 mm on the turbine side—allow for even quicker acceleration, drastically reducing turbo lag and delivering a thrilling driving experience.
