Porsche is set to introduce an all-electric version of its Cayenne coupe this coming late summer, signaling the company's commitment to the growing electric vehicle market. This new Cayenne Coupe Electric, featuring a four-door design unlike traditional coupes, will be part of a broader lineup of electric variants, which includes the Cayenne Electric, Cayenne S Electric, and Cayenne Turbo Electric. The Cayenne coupe has historically been a strong performer for Porsche. Since its introduction in 2019, the coupe variant of the gas-powered Cayenne captured 20% of total sales within just a year. Fast forward to today, and it constitutes a remarkable 40% of all Cayenne sales, with certain markets seeing that figure soar to 90%. These statistics suggest that the electric version could be a significant addition to Porsche's offerings, despite its anticipated six-figure price. Unlike the Porsche Macan, which will transition to an exclusively electric model, the Cayenne coupe EV will coexist with its gasoline and hybrid counterparts well into the future, as confirmed by a Porsche representative. This strategy could provide valuable insights into consumer preferences for electric versus traditional engine types. The Cayenne Coupe Electric will launch in three distinct variants: a base model, an S coupe, and a turbo coupe. The starting price for the base model is set at $113,800, excluding a $2,350 delivery charge, with the S coupe priced at $131,200 and the turbo variant at $168,000. Customers seeking enhanced performance can opt for additional features, such as the lightweight sport package, which includes premium materials and upgrades. All coupe EV models will be equipped with an 800-volt powertrain, advanced air suspension, and a stylish roof design that echoes the iconic Porsche 911 silhouette. Furthermore, the Cayenne coupe EV will be compatible with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) as well as an additional AC charging port for convenience. Performance-wise, the base coupe EV will deliver up to 435 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque, achieving a top speed of 143 mph and accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. For those craving even more power, the turbo version boasts an impressive 1,139 horsepower and 1,106 pound-feet of torque, rivalling performance benchmarks set by competitors such as the Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air. The turbo variant reaches a top speed of 162 mph and can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in a staggering 2.4 seconds. While Porsche has yet to disclose the official EPA range for the Cayenne coupe EV, early testing indicates it aligns closely with other electric Cayenne models, projecting a range of approximately 360 miles. However, opting for larger tires may reduce this range by about 10% due to increased rolling resistance. With this new electric offering, Porsche continues to push the boundaries of luxury and performance in the evolving automotive landscape.
