New social features further Plex’s evolution from media server business

Plex is set to transform its platform with the introduction of innovative social features that will enhance user interaction. Starting today, users can create and share personalized lists of their favorite movies, shows, or episodes. This new functionality aims to make content discovery more engaging than ever. Later this year, Plex plans to expand these capabilities by allowing users to import lists from various streaming services and react to the lists created by others. Additionally, a community forum will be launched this month, enabling users to post and comment on any movie, show, season, or episode directly. The platform will also unveil 'Match Scores' later in the year, a feature designed to analyze a viewer’s history and ratings to predict their enjoyment of new content. Existing features like content rating will be complemented by the ability to express reactions through emojis, while users will soon be able to respond to reviews and discussions with images, adding a new dimension to interactions. In a bid to keep users informed, Plex is introducing a 'Follow Anything' feature that will send alerts about movies, shows, actors, and crew members that users choose to follow. With over 100 million viewing decisions made monthly and more than 45 million watchlists created, these new features are poised to significantly enhance the Plex experience. According to the company, this evolution is part of its broader vision to streamline entertainment discovery in an increasingly complicated streaming environment.
