Philips has long been a key player in the smart lighting market, particularly with its popular Hue line of color-changing, Wi-Fi connected lights. As the demand for smart home devices grows, Philips is responding with a significant update to its offerings, aimed at both loyal customers and those who have hesitated due to higher price points. The latest upgrades include new flagship bulbs, vibrant light strips, and a redesigned hub that supports the Matter-over-Thread protocol. This allows for better integration with other smart home devices. Notably, the introduction of the Hue Essential bulbs marks a game-changing moment for budget-conscious consumers. These new Essential bulbs don't offer the same dimming capabilities or extensive color range as their premium counterparts, but they do provide a more accessible entry point. Priced at $25 for individual A19/E26 bulbs and as low as $15 each when purchased in a four-pack, these options are significantly cheaper—roughly half to a quarter of the usual cost of standard Hue bulbs. This strategic move is expected to help mitigate the impact of recent tariff-related price hikes announced by the company earlier this summer. Additionally, the Hue Essential line will include BR30 and GU10 variants, further expanding the choices available to consumers seeking affordable smart lighting solutions.
