Perplexity CEO says his AI browser can replace THESE two white collar jobs

In the competitive landscape of AI technology, San Francisco-based startup Perplexity is making waves with its innovative generative AI-enhanced search engine and its latest creation, the Comet browser. This ambitious venture aims not only to challenge industry giants like Google but also to redefine certain white-collar jobs. During a recent interview on The Verge's "Decoder" podcast, CEO Aravind Srinivas disclosed that the Comet browser may soon take over the roles of recruiters and administrative assistants. He elaborated on how advancements in AI reasoning models, such as a future GPT-5 or Claude 4.5, could automate tasks typically handled by these professionals. Srinivas explained that the primary functions of a recruiter could be streamlined through Comet. He described the job as primarily revolving around sourcing candidates and managing communications. "A recruiter’s work worth one week is just one prompt: sourcing and reach outs. You want it to keep following up, track their responses, update statuses, and even sync with calendars," he noted. This functionality aims to free up time and reduce the repetitive nature of these tasks. The Comet browser is designed to operate more like an operating system, efficiently running background processes and executing commands based on natural language prompts. Currently, it's available to Perplexity's paying customers, but the company is also inviting free users to gain access in the future, albeit with some features potentially behind a paywall. Srinivas expressed confidence in the monetization potential of Comet, suggesting that if it helps users significantly increase their earnings, spending a couple of thousand dollars for the service could be a worthwhile investment. He believes that the unique functionalities offered by Comet will attract users and create a sustainable business model beyond traditional chatbot services. As Perplexity continues to innovate, the implications for the job market and productivity in various sectors could be profound, prompting a reevaluation of the roles that AI can play in everyday business operations.
