In a bold move to carve out a niche in the competitive consumer internet landscape, Perplexity AI has officially introduced its new AI-enhanced web browser, named Comet. This launch, announced on Wednesday, positions the startup against major players like Google and Microsoft. Comet is designed to seamlessly integrate with enterprise applications such as Slack, enabling users to interact using both voice and text for complex inquiries. A demonstration video released by Perplexity showcases the browser’s capabilities, emphasizing its potential to enhance user interaction with digital tools. Currently, Comet is available exclusively to Perplexity Max subscribers, with plans for a gradual rollout to a waitlist this summer. The subscription service is priced at $200 per month. "We developed Comet to allow the internet to fulfill its promise of enhancing our intelligence," the company stated in a blog post. In addition, earlier this year, Perplexity was reportedly in discussions to secure $500 million in funding, aiming for a valuation of $14 billion. Furthermore, talks with Meta regarding a possible acquisition did not result in a finalized agreement. Perplexity has assured users that it will continuously introduce new features and enhancements for Comet, committed to refining the user experience based on feedback. The company remains focused on its mission to create reliable and innovative AI solutions that spark human curiosity.
