Perplexity has launched an innovative tool named 'Computer', designed to empower users to delegate tasks across a network of AI agents. This new feature, currently available to subscribers of Perplexity Max, is described as a comprehensive system that can generate and implement entire workflows, capable of functioning continuously for extended periods—ranging from hours to even months. Users can initiate specific goals, such as orchestrating a digital marketing campaign for a restaurant or developing an Android application tailored for research purposes. The Computer then breaks down these objectives into manageable subtasks and allocates them to various agents, employing the most suitable AI models as determined by Perplexity. At the heart of this system is Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.6, which serves as the primary reasoning engine. Additional models are utilized for specialized tasks: Gemini focuses on in-depth research, Nano Banana excels in image generation, Veo 3.1 handles video production, Grok is optimized for rapid tasks, and ChatGPT 5.2 is utilized for extensive context retention and broad search capabilities. This strategic selection of models sets it apart from competitors like Claude Cowork, which relies solely on Anthropic's offerings. All operations take place in the cloud, leveraging pre-built integrations. According to Perplexity, each task is executed in a distinct computational environment with access to real filesystems, browsers, and tool integrations. This approach aims to simplify complex workflows for users who prefer not to manage extensive setup processes. Previously, many users had already begun utilizing multiple AI models for tailored tasks, often employing Model Context Protocol (MCP) to grant these models access to local data and applications. Perplexity Computer offers a streamlined alternative, maintaining the goal of deploying AI agents with optimally chosen models to handle tasks involving personal files and services. In the background of this innovation lies OpenClaw, a concept that paved the way for Computer. Initially branded as ClawdBot and later as Moltbot, OpenClaw was an agentic AI tool that capitalized on large language models, functioning as a background assistant on local machines, capable of managing tasks ranging from sorting emails to website creation and beyond.
