Aravind Srinivas confirms Perplexity to integrate OpenAI’s GPT 5.1

In a significant move for conversational AI, Aravind Srinivas, the Chief of Perplexity, announced on Friday the integration of OpenAI's latest model, GPT-5.1, into their platform. This development follows the recent unveiling of the model by OpenAI, which is touted to enhance the quality of interactions with more natural dialogues, improved reasoning capabilities, and personalized experiences. Srinivas shared the exciting news via Twitter, stating, "GPT 5.1 on Perplexity for all Pro and Max users. Kimi K2 is coming very soon." The new model, revealed earlier this week, comes with notable advancements in intelligence, adaptability, and communication style, offering two distinct versions: GPT-5.1 Instant and GPT-5.1 Thinking. The GPT-5.1 Instant variant is focused on speed and user accessibility, while GPT-5.1 Thinking aims at fostering deeper reasoning and persistent problem-solving capabilities. OpenAI emphasizes that this model is designed to deliver clearer outputs with fewer ambiguous terms, thereby facilitating a smoother and more engaging dialogue. The Instant version, frequently utilized in ChatGPT, now presents a warmer tone, enhancing conversational quality and reliability in following user instructions. On the other hand, the Thinking version is tailored for advanced reasoning, promising easier comprehension, quicker responses to straightforward tasks, and greater consistency in tackling complex problems. OpenAI Co-Founder Sam Altman confirmed the launch on social media, referring to it as a "nice upgrade". He expressed admiration for the enhancements in instruction handling and the model’s adaptive thinking capabilities. Altman also highlighted that the latest iteration provides users with greater flexibility in shaping ChatGPT's responses, offering a range of presets, including friendly, efficient, professional, candid, or quirky, along with options for further tone adjustments.
