Peloton has announced a significant recall of approximately 833,000 of its original Bike+ models due to reports of seat post failures leading to injuries. This action, prompted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), follows three complaints, including two incidents where users were injured. The affected Bike+ units, which were sold from January 2020 through April 2025, have prompted the CPSC to advise users to "immediately stop using the recalled exercise bikes." Marcio Oliveira, Peloton’s Senior Vice President of Global Hardware Operations and Product Safety, emphasized the company's commitment to product integrity and customer safety in a statement, announcing that replacement seat posts will be provided to all impacted users. This recall is not unprecedented for Peloton. Earlier in 2023, the company recalled around 2.2 million exercise bikes due to similar safety issues after customers reported injuries. Thursday’s recall further complicates Peloton's recovery efforts, which have already included a change in leadership and significant layoffs last year. As the company gears up for its upcoming earnings report, it faces the challenge of revitalizing growth following a downturn in sales after the pandemic.
