Pebblebee has introduced a significant new feature for its existing Clip Universal Bluetooth trackers, enhancing their functionality for users. The company announced today that these trackers, compatible with both iOS and Android devices, will now include an Alert function that activates a siren and flashing light when assistance is needed. Initially launched in May 2024, Pebblebee's trackers come in various formats, including a Clip version akin to Apple's AirTag, a credit card-shaped variant, and a compact Tag. By October 2024, the company had unveiled Universal versions of these trackers that could tap into both Google’s Find My Device and Apple’s Find My networks, albeit not at the same time. With the latest software update, users of the Clip Universal trackers can trigger an attention-grabbing alert by pressing the device multiple times in quick succession. This feature enhances the original functionality, which was primarily designed to help users locate their belongings in low-light conditions. Additionally, Clip owners can now create a Safety Circle through the Pebblebee companion app. This setup allows designated members of the Circle to receive immediate emergency notifications whenever the panic alarm is activated. According to Pebblebee, these alerts will be sent through the app and backend services, provided that the user's phone is within range. This update from Pebblebee underscores the potential for gadget manufacturers to roll out software improvements that enhance user experience, rather than merely focusing on profit-driven initiatives. In a landscape where many tech updates come with restrictions or additional costs, Pebblebee's approach stands out as a refreshing exception.
