PayPal has rolled out an exciting new feature designed for seamless peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions: personalized, one-time payment links. This system, termed PayPal Links, is set to enhance the way users send money to one another, complementing the already popular PayPal Me feature, which facilitates sharing profile information for payments. Unlike traditional payment requests tied to fixed amounts, PayPal Links provide flexibility. Users can now create a payment request by selecting the link option, inputting the desired amount, and sharing this unique link in any conversation. This streamlined approach simplifies the process of making or requesting payments without the need to verify account details, significantly reducing the steps required. In a groundbreaking move, PayPal Links will soon incorporate cryptocurrency support within the U.S. Users will be able to send popular digital currencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and PYUSD directly to PayPal, Venmo, and other compatible crypto wallets. Initially available in the U.S., this feature is expected to expand to additional markets, including the U.K. and Italy, later in the month. To create a PayPal Link, users simply need to open the PayPal app, input the payment details, and generate a unique link for that specific transaction. This link is private and associated solely with the transaction at hand. Users can then easily share the link in chats, texts, or DMs where financial exchanges are discussed. It's worth noting that any unclaimed links will expire after ten days, but users can send reminders or cancel the links as needed. Once the recipient clicks the link, they can accept the payment in the PayPal app, allowing for instant fund transfers. Moreover, personal payments continue to be free from 1099-K reporting, providing further convenience for users.
