In a significant shift, Patreon, the platform dedicated to helping creators monetize their content through memberships and digital products, has announced a revised pricing model. Effective August 4, 2025, the platform will implement a new universal fee of 10% on creator earnings. Currently, Patreon operates with two tiers: an 8% cut, which is the more popular option, and a 12% cut, depending on the creator's choice. However, existing creators can breathe easy, as this change will solely impact those launching new Patreon pages after the cutoff date. Patreon explained in a recent blog post that it has not updated its pricing structure in six years, during which time it has significantly expanded its offerings. The platform has integrated a variety of new features, including native video hosting, livestreaming, free memberships, digital product sales, and gift subscriptions. While price increases are often met with resistance, Patreon argues that the enhancements justify the new fee. For anyone contemplating starting a Patreon account, now might be the time to act to secure the current 8% rate before the adjustment takes effect.
