The newly launched MacBook Neo by Apple, priced at an attractive $600, showcases impressive capabilities, yet its A18 Pro processor is a notable compromise when stacked against the modern MacBook Air. While our analysis indicates that the Neo handles basic computing tasks effectively, it falls short for more intensive workloads that require additional CPU and GPU cores, as well as RAM, making the Air a superior option for demanding users. However, the limited computing resources of the Neo are still sufficient for running Windows through Parallels Desktop virtualization software. Following extensive testing and benchmarking, Parallels has affirmed that the MacBook Neo is adept for lightweight computing, everyday productivity, document editing, and web-based applications while operating Windows 11. Parallels highlights the Neo’s commendable single-core CPU performance, which ensures a “quick and responsive” experience when multitasking with various Windows-exclusive software. This includes popular applications such as QuickBooks Desktop, Microsoft Office, as well as light engineering and data tools like AutoCAD LT and MATLAB. Additionally, it supports educational software that lacks a macOS counterpart. In Parallels' assessments, the Neo demonstrated a single-core CPU performance that was approximately 20 percent superior to a Core Ultra 5 235U chip found in the Dell Pro 14 laptop, underscoring its capabilities in the realm of virtualization and productivity.
