Ex-Twitter chief Parag Agrawal returns to Silicon Valley with a $30 million AI company

In a significant return to Silicon Valley, Parag Agrawal, the former CEO of Twitter, has unveiled his latest venture in artificial intelligence. His new company, Parallel Web Systems Inc., has emerged with the goal of empowering AI systems to perform reliable and real-time internet research. Founded in 2023 and located in Palo Alto, Parallel Web Systems has rapidly expanded to a team of 25 members and successfully raised $30 million in funding from renowned investors such as Khosla Ventures, Index Ventures, and First Round Capital. The company reports that its innovative platform is already managing millions of research tasks daily for early adopters, including several rapidly evolving AI companies. At the core of Parallel’s technology is a cloud-based solution designed to serve as a browser for AI models. Unlike traditional systems that depend solely on static training data, Parallel allows applications to access, verify, and organize information from the public web while assessing the confidence level of their responses. The platform features eight specialized research engines, each optimized for varying depths and speeds of inquiry. Among these engines, the Ultra8x stands out, capable of conducting searches for up to 30 minutes and reportedly outperforming both OpenAI’s GPT-5 and human experts in tests like BrowseComp and DeepResearch Bench. Parallel's tools offer diverse applications, from coding support that retrieves live snippets from GitHub to retailers tracking competitors’ product offerings and analysts gathering customer feedback. Additionally, developers can utilize Parallel’s services through three APIs, including a low-latency option tailored for chatbots. Agrawal’s resurgence is a notable contrast to his departure from Twitter in 2022, when Elon Musk's $44 billion acquisition led to significant leadership changes. Following this transition, Agrawal explored various AI concepts, initially in healthcare, before honing in on enhancing how AI systems collect and interpret data. Now back in the limelight, Agrawal aims to establish Parallel as a pivotal force in the effort to enhance AI reliability and accuracy. He anticipates a future where users will deploy multiple AI agents to navigate the internet on their behalf, predicting this advancement could occur as early as next year.
