Palantir communications chief calls the company's political shift 'concerning'

The head of global communications at Palantir, Lisa Gordon, expressed her apprehensions regarding the company's recent political alignment with the Trump administration. During an interview at The Information's Women in Tech, Media and Finance summit, she remarked, "It's concerning," highlighting the challenges arising from the company's shift towards a more pro-Trump stance. Gordon, a Democrat with a background in political campaigning for figures such as Walter Mondale, noted that the company has historically maintained a balanced approach with both Republicans and Democrats. However, she acknowledged that navigating this new political landscape has become increasingly difficult. "I'm just starting to navigate that now, moving forward, where I feel like there's been a shift," she stated. Palantir's CEO, Alex Karp, has recently voiced his support for Donald Trump, a move that reportedly stems from his frustrations with the Democratic Party. Notably, Karp has previously contributed to the campaigns of prominent Democratic figures, including Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden. This political shift is further underscored by Palantir's substantial contract with the U.S. Army, valued at up to $10 billion over the next decade, reinforcing the company's commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence for government efficiency. Gordon's comments reflect the internal dynamics at play as Palantir grapples with its evolving political identity. She emphasized that while differing opinions are tolerated, alignment with the company's values is crucial for employees. She specifically referenced Karp's strong support for Israel amid ongoing conflicts, stating, "You don't get fired for having a different position, but you will leave if you're not aligned." As the situation in Gaza escalates, with significant casualties reported, Karp has acknowledged that Palantir may face workforce changes due to his outspoken political views. "What we try to focus on are the missions, not the personalities so much, and staying true to the work," Gordon concluded, shedding light on the company's commitment to its core objectives despite the turbulent political environment.
