In a recent interview, Palantir Technologies CEO Alex Karp expressed his concerns over the escalating competition in artificial intelligence between the United States and China, emphasizing that the outcome will determine which nation prevails. "My general view on AI is that it poses risks," Karp stated during an appearance on CNBC's "Squawk on the Street." He elaborated that the stakes are high: "Either we succeed, or China will." Karp has consistently advocated for the U.S. to take the lead in AI development. Earlier this year, he urged the nation to 'run harder, run faster' in a comprehensive effort to advance AI technologies. In a letter to shareholders, he highlighted Palantir's dedication to enhancing U.S. defense capabilities. Karp believes the U.S. currently has an advantage in the AI race, with Palantir at the forefront of helping businesses bolster their security and operational efficiency. He praised the unique corporate leadership in the U.S. that is adaptable and tech-savvy, stating, "There is no economy in the world with this kind of corporate leadership which is willing to pivot, which understands technologies, which is willing to look at new things, but also has deep domain expertise. Our allies in Europe will have to learn from us." The Denver-based data analytics firm has seen its stock soar, reflecting investor confidence in its software solutions and partnerships with significant government entities. Shares have risen by 74% this year, although Karp acknowledged that investors may need to accept a higher earnings multiple than other tech firms. "If you don't like the price, exit," he commented in response to concerns. In light of recent scrutiny, Karp also clarified that Palantir does not engage in surveillance of American citizens, countering allegations from a New York Times report suggesting otherwise. Karp remains focused on the company's mission to leverage its platform for substantial impact.
