Palantir joins list of 20 most valuable U.S. companies, with stock more than doubling in 2025

Palantir Technologies has reached a significant milestone, positioning itself as one of the top 20 most valuable companies in the United States. This comes after the company's stock saw a remarkable increase, rising approximately 3% on Friday and pushing its market capitalization to an impressive $375 billion. This valuation now surpasses well-known giants like Home Depot and Procter & Gamble. The software and data analytics firm, which primarily serves defense agencies, has experienced more than a doubling of its stock value this year. This surge is largely attributed to heightened investor confidence in its artificial intelligence ventures and its strengthening relationship with the U.S. government. Since its inception in 2003 by co-founders Peter Thiel and CEO Alex Karp, Palantir has cultivated a robust customer base. In its latest quarterly report, Palantir noted a staggering 45% increase in revenue from its U.S. government operations, totaling $373 million. Overall, the company's sales climbed by 39%, reaching $884 million. The upcoming earnings report, scheduled for August 4, is highly anticipated by investors. Earlier this year, Palantir made headlines by surpassing industry stalwarts like Salesforce, IBM, and Cisco, securing a spot in the top 10 U.S. tech companies by market capitalization. However, potential investors should be aware that acquiring Palantir stock at its current valuation comes with steep multiples; it trades at a staggering 273 times its forward earnings, according to FactSet. The only other company in the top 20 with a similarly high ratio is Tesla, at 175. With total revenue of $3.1 billion over the past year, Palantir is relatively small compared to its peers within the top 20 by market cap. Mastercard, valued at $518 billion, is the nearest competitor with sales exceeding $29 billion in the last four quarters.
