On Tuesday, Oura introduced its groundbreaking AI model aimed at enhancing women's health insights through its AI chatbot, Oura Advisor. This new feature is designed to provide personalized responses covering the entire spectrum of reproductive health, from early menstrual cycles to menopause. The AI model is being rolled out in Oura Labs, which serves as the company’s experimental feature hub within the Oura app. According to Oura, the model is rooted in well-established medical standards and has been crafted with input from a team of board-certified clinicians and women's health specialists. It harnesses biometric signals along with long-term trends to offer tailored guidance to users. As reliance on AI chatbots for health-related inquiries grows, Oura recognizes the necessity for solutions specifically catered to women. "This custom model signifies a pivotal change in how we responsibly utilize AI in health to address the unique needs of our members," stated Ricky Bloomfield, MD, Oura's chief medical officer, in a press release. He emphasized that women’s health is intricate and often neglected, underscoring the importance of a model specifically designed for women, grounded in credible clinical science and actual biometric data. The launch comes at a time when Oura's chief commercial officer, Dorothy Kilroy, revealed to TechCrunch last October that the company’s most rapidly expanding user demographic is women in their early twenties. When users pose a question related to women's health, Oura Advisor uses the new model to draw from its research and knowledge base while evaluating the user’s pertinent biometric signals, including sleep, activity levels, cycle, pregnancy data, and stress. Designed to be supportive and non-dismissive, the model aims to provide reassurance to users. However, Oura clarifies that it is not intended for medical diagnoses or treatment plans. The company also assures that the model operates solely on its own infrastructure, with user conversations remaining confidential and not sold. Users interested in this new feature can easily opt into Oura Labs through the drop-down menu in the upper left corner of the Oura app.
