In an evolving landscape of AI-driven productivity tools, Otter is stepping up its game. Recognizing that simply transcribing meetings and generating summaries isn't enough, Otter is transforming into a comprehensive workspace tool. This shift allows users to integrate data from various sources, enabling them to search through all their information and make informed business decisions. Following the footsteps of competitors like Read AI, Fireflies.ai, and Fathom, Otter is now introducing enterprise search capabilities by functioning as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) client. This allows it to connect with and extract data from external applications using a standard widely adopted across AI technologies. Having been in the market for nearly a decade, Otter has made significant strides in becoming a versatile productivity tool. Last October, they launched a feature that permitted organizations to create custom MCPs, facilitating access to Otter data from outside the app. The latest enhancement focuses on importing external data directly into the Otter platform. Users can now link their accounts from Gmail, Google Drive, Notion, Jira, and Salesforce, allowing them to search and combine this information with their existing meeting data. Furthermore, connections to Microsoft Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Slack are on the horizon. This robust search functionality not only allows users to find relevant data across these platforms but also enables them to seamlessly push meeting summaries to Notion or compose emails in Gmail. Additionally, Otter has revamped its AI assistant, which is now more integrated throughout the interface, providing real-time assistance and context-aware responses based on the current screen, whether it’s a specific meeting or a channel. While many note-taking tools are shifting towards a botless meeting capture method, Otter remains aligned with its enterprise clients' preferences. Otter CEO Sam Liang noted that most enterprise users favor having a bot join the meeting for transparency and to ensure that notes are accessible to all attendees, rather than being confined to one individual. To combat the potential chaos of multiple bots in a single meeting, Otter has implemented a deduplication feature, ensuring that a plethora of bots doesn't overwhelm human participants. With its user base growing from 25 million to 35 million and reported annual recurring revenue reaching $100 million, Otter is clearly making significant waves in the productivity software market.
